The Maine Art Gallery in Wiscasset’s calendar is filled with exhibitions and classes designed to meet the artistic interests of the local community as well as its summer visitors.

According to a gallery press release.

The exhibit is scheduled to open Saturday, May 7 with a reception at 4 p.m. The exhibit will be on view from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday through May 28.

At the start of the summer, Wiscasset will be filled with plein-air painters hosted by the gallery. Artists from the New England Watercolor Society plan on May 19 to use the village of Wiscasset as inspiration, and the Plein Air Painters of Maine will arrive with a similar mission on June 15.

All current gallery members are invited to paint alongside these groups. The gallery’s outdoor artists participating in the Paint Wiscasset Show will paint and exhibit from June 29 to July 9.

Celia Ludwig, artist and volunteer gallery member, has coordinated a class schedule that fills up quickly. The first, Sketching on the Go with Diane Dubreil, is sold out. Other courses include: Plein Air Demonstration with Deborah Chapin, Catching the Light, Plein Air with Deanna Ball, Abstraction and the Landscape with Karen Jelenfy and Impressionistic Photography with Olga Merrill.

The gallery will host six exhibitions this season, including juried and non-juried member exhibitions. A guiding organizational force behind the ambitious schedule is gallery consultant Kerry Hadley, who joined the nonprofit a year ago. She will now be supported in her efforts by Candice Joneth, recently hired as an assistant gallery owner.
