First Friday of October: local art exhibitions await you

The VALISE gallery and The Hardware Store restaurant invite art lovers from here and abroad.

In October, VALISE Artist Collective and Gallery presents landscape paintings by Jiji Saunders and George Wright.

Saunders’ images depict a warm wind picking up the edge of a tent, a cerulean river meandering on the horizon, and summer trees mimicking the sounds of the river as the day heats up.

“These are lazy rivers on scorching hot days,” Saunders said. “These are the rivers of childhood summers.”

George Wright’s encaustic paintings are abstract depictions of landscapes.

“For my part in this show, I used local bees to do all the work and just add color,” she said, describing the exhibit as a storybook filled with acres. wood, grass and water.

Gallery-goers, she said, can “share a marshmallow or bee knees.”

In October, Galerie VALISE is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

A reception will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, October 7. The exhibition will continue until Saturday, October 29.
