By day – In the galleries: the Norwich Arts Center exhibits photographs

The Norwich Arts Center May Exhibition will feature cutting-edge photography from a number of local photographers throughout the month of May. Works include color and black and white photos as well as images artistically rendered with computers or special development techniques.

The juried exhibition will distribute $225 in prizes to three photographs judged to be the best. All photographs will be available for sale.

The exhibition opens at noon on Thursday May 5, with a reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday May 6. Photographers will be present to talk about their work.

Rhode Island photographer Paul M. Murray will judge the works. Although he has made no statement about his approach to appraisal, his underlying philosophy of art is summed up in a quote from writer James Agee: “The task of the artist is not to modify the world as the eye sees it… but to perceive the aesthetic. reality in the real world.

The Norwich Arts Center galleries are open from noon to 4 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Gallery One presents monthly exhibitions. The Too Gallery showcases works by local painters, photographers and other artists as well as artist-grade handicrafts such as jewelry, cards and books.
